Legal & Safety
LakeRadar is an informational conditions utility built from public government datasets. Please review this notice carefully before relying on any score, estimate, or data feed on our website.
LakeRadar calculates 0–100 activity ratings for fishing, boating, sailing, paddling, and swimming. These numbers are automated heuristics generated by algorithmic weighting of recent weather forecasts, wind measurements, and hydrological sensor readings.
They do not constitute a safety clearance, recreational certification, or formal guarantee. Conditions on inland lakes and reservoirs can evolve rapidly due to localized thermal winds, topographic funneling, sudden convective squalls, dam releases, and changing underwater obstructions that sensors cannot detect.
All raw weather, wind, and alert data on LakeRadar are ingested from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS). Hydrological records (water surface elevation, gauge height, and streamflow) originate from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Information System, with select reservoirs sourced from operating authorities (including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation, and Tennessee Valley Authority).
LakeRadar is an independent platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any federal, state, or municipal government agency. If information on this website diverges from warnings issued by the National Weather Service, local emergency managers, or the on-site park ranger, the official authority is always correct.
Public hydrological and meteorological sensors are subject to equipment downtime, telemetry delays, seasonal recalibration, and mechanical fouling. While LakeRadar runs scheduled ingestion workers and flags data that has fallen behind its expected freshness window, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted real-time accuracy:
Everyone who visits a lake is solely responsible for their own safety and the safety of their passengers or companions. Before launching any vessel or entering the water, always:
