LakeRadar is an informational lake conditions utility. We believe the most effective way to protect your privacy is simple: we do not collect personal information, we do not require accounts, and we do not track your location.
LakeRadar has no user sign-in, no account creation, no password storage, and no personal profiles. You do not need to register, log in, or provide an email address to look up lake conditions, weather forecasts, or activity scores.
We do not request, track, or store your precise GPS or device location. Our HTTP security headers include a strict Permissions Policy (geolocation=()) that explicitly instructs your browser never to share device location coordinates with our site.
All lake lookups are initiated by you through explicit search queries or direct directory links.
LakeRadar loads no third-party advertising trackers, social media pixels, or invasive tracking scripts. Our two typefaces (Manrope and Source Sans 3) are self-hosted directly from our own origin, ensuring that your font requests are never sent to third-party CDNs.
We do not set cross-site tracking cookies. We do not sell, rent, monetize, or broker personal data to any marketing brokers or analytical profiling networks.
To provide a responsive interface, LakeRadar utilizes standard browser localStorage strictly for client-side user preferences:
lakeradar_theme: Saves your preferred visual color mode (“light” or “dark”) so the interface does not flicker between page views.lakeradar_home_lake: Saves your chosen default home lake (slug and name) locally in your browser to provide one-tap access in the navigation bar. These values reside entirely on your device and are never transmitted to our servers or associated with an identity profile. You can clear them at any time by clearing your browser data.
When you visit a lake page on LakeRadar, your browser never makes direct network requests to upstream government APIs such as the National Weather Service (NWS) or the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). All public data is fetched, validated, and cached by LakeRadar on a scheduled basis. Your IP address and browsing patterns are never exposed to upstream data providers.
Like virtually all web services, our hosting infrastructure and Content Delivery Network (Cloudflare) may generate standard server log records when a page is requested. These logs may include your device IP address, browser user-agent string, referring URL, and the requested page path.
These logs are maintained solely for security monitoring, DDoS mitigation, debugging server errors, and enforcing rate limits on our public search API. They are retained for standard, limited technical retention windows and are never sold or used for commercial profiling.
