Solunar feeding forecasts, major and minor fish activity windows, real-time USGS water temperature, and NOAA atmospheric pressure trends for Magic Reservoir (Idaho). Verified depth tactics, biological thermal baselines, and conservation guidelines for freshwater anglers.
Flood Watch issued October 11 at 5:35AM MDT until October 12 at 6:00PM MDT by NWS Pocatello ID
Depth Guide: Surface water temperature directly regulates fish metabolic activity and foraging depth positioning.
Feeding Index: Low atmospheric pressure indicates incoming frontal activity. Fish often feed aggressively immediately ahead of approaching troughs.
Chop & Presentation: Light surface ripple breaks sunlight glare and disguises terminal tackle, prompting cautious game fish to strike moving lures.
Lunar Timing: Prime major window active around 1:28 PM MDT – 3:28 PM MDT. Astronomical alignment drives peak foraging intensity on Magic Reservoir.
Current index calculated from verified local atmospheric, hydrographic & alert inputs.
Fair for fishing (71/100), from 5 available inputs. Supporting this: Wind 3 mph from the south-southeast. Sky is overcast (95% cloud cover). Not available from a verified source for this lake: pressure trend, water temperature. Confidence is moderate (74%) because some inputs are unavailable or older than ideal.
Major feeding periods coincide with lunar transit (moon overhead and underfoot); minor periods occur during moonrise and moonset.
Moon Overhead (Transit)
Moon Underfoot (Antitransit)
| Feeding Window | Period Type | Astronomical Trigger | Feeding Intensity |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1:28 PM MDT – 3:28 PM MDT | Major Window | Moon Overhead (Transit) | High |
| 1:52 AM MDT – 3:52 AM MDT | Major Window | Moon Underfoot (Antitransit) | High |
| 8:34 AM MDT – 9:34 AM MDT | Minor Window | Moonrise | Moderate |
| 7:13 PM MDT – 8:13 PM MDT | Minor Window | Moonset | Moderate |
Solunar Science: Major periods produce peak gravitational tidal pull on aquatic organisms. Times and moon phase are computed locally from Magic Reservoir's coordinates and current astronomical orbit.

Public boat ramps, shore fishing access, and county park landings for Magic Reservoir are managed under state and regional public land guidelines.
Anglers launching trailered motorized watercraft or paddlecraft should verify seasonal water clearance and county park parking requirements prior to launching.
