Solunar feeding forecasts, major and minor fish activity windows, real-time USGS water temperature, and NOAA atmospheric pressure trends for Mono Lake (California). Verified depth tactics, biological thermal baselines, and conservation guidelines for freshwater anglers.
Lake Wind Advisory issued October 9 at 12:47PM PDT until October 10 at 11:00PM PDT by NWS Reno NV
Depth Guide: Surface water temperature directly regulates fish metabolic activity and foraging depth positioning.
Feeding Index: Steady barometric pressure sustains predictable feeding habits across primary ambush points and drop-offs.
Chop & Presentation: Light surface ripple breaks sunlight glare and disguises terminal tackle, prompting cautious game fish to strike moving lures.
Lunar Timing: Prime major window active around 11:12 AM PDT – 1:12 PM PDT. Astronomical alignment drives peak foraging intensity on Mono Lake.
Current index calculated from verified local atmospheric, hydrographic & alert inputs.
Good for fishing (86/100), from 5 available inputs. Supporting this: Wind 10 mph from the southwest. Sky is partly cloudy (37% cloud cover). Not available from a verified source for this lake: pressure trend, water temperature. Confidence is moderate (74%) because some inputs are unavailable or older than ideal.
Major feeding periods coincide with lunar transit (moon overhead and underfoot); minor periods occur during moonrise and moonset.
Moon Overhead (Transit)
Moon Underfoot (Antitransit)
| Feeding Window | Period Type | Astronomical Trigger | Feeding Intensity |
|---|---|---|---|
| 11:12 AM PDT – 1:12 PM PDT | Major Window | Moon Overhead (Transit) | High |
| 11:36 PM PDT – 1:36 AM PDT | Major Window | Moon Underfoot (Antitransit) | High |
| 5:36 AM PDT – 6:36 AM PDT | Minor Window | Moonrise | Moderate |
| 5:40 PM PDT – 6:40 PM PDT | Minor Window | Moonset | Moderate |
Solunar Science: Major periods produce peak gravitational tidal pull on aquatic organisms. Times and moon phase are computed locally from Mono Lake's coordinates and current astronomical orbit.

Provenance: Moon phase and major feeding windows are calculated using NOAA solar-lunar algorithms for Mono Lake's geographic coordinates. Wind velocity and precipitation probability reflect official National Weather Service forecast periods.

Public boat ramps, shore fishing access, and county park landings for Mono Lake are managed under state and regional public land guidelines.
Anglers launching trailered motorized watercraft or paddlecraft should verify seasonal water clearance and county park parking requirements prior to launching.
